Marketplace AmbassadorCBMC's Marketplace Ambassador Advancement System is grounded in 2 Corinthians 5:20 where the Apostle Paul states

"So we are Christ's ambassadors..."  This system is designed to equip and empower individuals to become effective ambassadors for Christ in the marketplace (a.k.a. Marketplace Ambassadors).

Finding Where You Are At Work

by Darryl Shoemaker, Ph.D

...and he [God] determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. (Acts 17:26b)

It is easy to get lost in this world unless you have your eye on something that can help you keep your bearings. For this reason I almost always go online to print off a map before I go on a trip so that I have a point of reference. In the same way people often try to determine if their career is on track by comparing themselves to peers at work. At home, value may be measured by how many opportunities are given to their kids or where they live. Personally, they try to measure their level of satisfaction with life by how happy they are on any given day.

It is important to take stock frequently of where we are at in all of these areas. However, this is hard to do if your point of reference is not one that you can trust. The examples above all use points of reference where we ourselves have determined their value in providing direction in the first place. It is a map based on myself as a reference point. There is an alternative. God placed you where you are at in your work, community and family for a reason. Have you ever wondered why? Attempting to answer that question may give you a true reference point that will help you see where you really are.

A WORK PRAYER
Lord God, help me to judge my success at work using You as a reference point. Help me to avoid the temptation to strive for success as the world sees it. Please continue to lead me in realistic and healthy ways of understanding work.  Amen.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. In taking stock of where you are, what do you use as your reference point, yourself or God?
  2. Why do you think God has placed you in your present workplace?
  3. Have you listened for God's guidance about what direction your work-life is going? What do you think He is saying?
