A Lesson from Chesty Puller

By Dwight Hill During the Korean War, Marine General Chesty Puller, along with his men of the First Marine Division were surrounded on every side by hoards of invading Chinese troops at Chanqjin Reservoir (November 27, 1950). To his men Puller announced, "The enemy is on every side. They can't escape!"

Unexplainable Power

By Os Hillman I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. (John 3:11) When is the last time God did something in your work life that can only be explained as God? Was it yesterday? Was it just last week? A month ago? A year ago?

The Power of Prayer

By Virendra Vase Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Most of us feel a bit guilty when it comes to the amount of time we spend with God. I am no exception to this generalization. Having said that, I have not given up on praying for my coworkers.

Missing the Most Important Thing

By John Eldredge We take folks through a discipleship program whereby they master any number of Christian precepts and miss the most important thing of all, the very thing for which we were created: intimacy with God. There are, after all, those troubling words Jesus spoke to those who were doing all the "right" things: "Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you'" (Matt. 7:23). Knowing God. That's the point.

Time in God's Word is Not a Grim Duty

By Randy Alcorn Frank Laubach (1884-1970) devoted his life to encouraging literacy around the world, with the goal that people everywhere would read the Bible. He wrote an influential pamphlet entitled "The Game with Minutes." In it, Laubach encouraged Christians to keep God in their minds at least one second of every minute each day.

Walking in Justice, Mercy and Humility @ Work

By Drew Crandall Micah 6:8 (KJV): "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" As we actively seek to be Godly influences in our workplaces, we need to diligently seek to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our Lord. By doing so, we create a strong spiritual foundation upon which we can be discipled and disciple others.

Has God Called You Yet?

I find that quite a few men seem to ascribe to the random theory of living. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Things just seemed to fall into place?" Actually, most of us rather feel they don't (i.e. "fall into place"). Things and circumstances often seem random to us. Yet the Bible makes it clear that God has a plan for everything, though we often don't see it clearly from day to day. Throughout the Bible we do read about God calling men and women to a specific task or job. Have you ever wondered if God might be calling you? Reading Scripture with God

Many of us have been thinking about New Year's resolutions. I think they're generally a good idea, but we often don't succeed because we don't follow through on them. This week, John Eldredge reminds us of a good resolution that a lot of people have made from time to time - read the Bible more regularly. I'll add a couple of my own suggestions to his here: 1. Have a plan. (I have a couple of links to plans you might want to try at the bottom of this page.) 2. Share your plan with someone else who can help you be accountable to be persistent and follow through. 3. Team up with several men who want to reach a similar goal and encourage one another as you go. Now, take a look at what John has to say. Ernie P.S. - PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR: the next CBMC Marketplace Ambassador breakfast at the Grill on the Hill is on Tuesday, February 7, 7:00 to 8:15 am.
