"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."
John 10:9 (KJV):
COMMENTARY: In recent days, the world has watched in concern, amazement and exuberance at the depths (literally and figuratively) that rescuers have gone to successfully deliver the boys' soccer team and their coach from the flooded cave in Thailand. They did their jobs with remarkable courage, skill, fortitude and equipping. Sadly, a Thai diver perished during the effort. We need to pray for his family and friends. The ending isn't quite so happy for them.
Do you think the boys and their coach will ever forget this experience? NO. They were trapped in darkness, with little if any practical hope of getting out. Yet, rescued they were. Do you think those involved in the rescue will ever forget this experience? NO. Against all odds, they were able to be part of a profound rescue mission.
APPLICATION: You and I who are Christ-followers are also rescuers at work. How? By being Christ-like and pointing employers, employees, suppliers, customers, peers and others to the One (Jesus) who can supernaturally save them from the eternal penalty of their sinful nature, deliver them out of spiritual darkness, bring them into the Light, empower them with the Holy Spirit to live transformed lives.
Being a spiritual rescuer at work also requires courage, skill, fortitude and equipping. You cannot be a bull in a China shop. You cannot be naïve or foolish. You must be wise, ever sensitive to the Holy Spirit to give you real-time discernment and guidance as to who, what, when, where and how to engage in His divine rescuing process. But the reality is this: you do have a role in the process. That's why He saved YOU and placed you in the workplace for such a time as this!
The souls that you influence and impact in the workplace for Christ will never forget being rescued by Jesus. Nor will you. When you come to the end of your days, at work or in life, the God-given sense of satisfaction will be invigorating. By God's grace, let's mobilize and see souls saved in our workplaces. May I hear an Amen?
